The Police Force in a Fascist Country Reacts

May Ayres – sculptress and artist reports on the evening of the 29thMay 2024

Displaced Children in WAFADear David,

I returned late last night from an impromptu rally outside Downing Street. A truly heart warming record turn out at short notice, the protesters began streaming in well before 6pm, the official start. Inflamed by the horrendous assault in Rafah the people turned out in full force. I think it’s worth writing about because it was very inspiring.

We all know how governments ignore demonstrations. (The millions turning out against the invasion of Iraq achieved nothing and it’s still a very sore point). This Palestine protest was different to recent ones. I suppose because the area was small it appeared more powerful. (I’ve never seen Whitehall so jammed packed with protesting bodies) And there was a palpable sense of urgency that the slaughter had to stop.

I arrived fairly early and was soon crammed in. There was no pushing or shoving but I had to weave my way out and managed to cross the road, directly in front of Downing Street gates. The police had kept the left lane free for the traffic. Manned by PC’s who all looked about sixteen, they struggled to contain the numbers. They carefully threaded ribbon along the perimeter to hold back the crowd from the traffic lane. The traffic had to be free, the masses had to be herded. But they lost the battle. The flood gates had been opened, people streamed along the traffic lane and they had to close Whitehall. The PC’s scuttled away, and the people claimed the whole area. The speakers on the stadium tried hard to be heard above the chanting but when they had finished the disciplined drummers set the mood of cheerful defiance. The chants took on a powerful rhythm.

We are the people.

We won’t be silent.

Stop the bombing

Now, Now, Now, Now.

Even I who doesn’t often join in the chanting when marching, felt sufficiently moved to sing along with a full voice!

And that was just one of a number of uplifting slogans accompanied by drum beats that soared over the area in cheerful but steely defiance. The atmosphere was wonderful. The crowd was one solid mass and when the rains came we all remained steadfast. Then the signal came to sit down. Now this is what I’ve always thought we should do, especially during the million people march for Iraq. But it’s when I remember that I’m now seventy -five not twenty - five. No longer so agile. But many did.

And at half past eight the police could no longer tolerate the enormous peaceful, noisy gathering. They attacked. A long solid line of cops smashed through the protesters and I was hurled to one side and tumbled into the laps of sitting protesters. I must have hurt some of them but they were more concerned for me. I guess I looked old in their eyes and they were shocked at the brutality. But sadly, it’s no longer shocking. They were fearful that we’d never go home and had to show off their  brutalforce. But we do go home. One day soon, we won't. We’ll all sit down and refuse to leave.

But the people of Gaza continue to suffer and how shameful that we can’t put an end to it. The attack on Rafah hits the height of depravity. Words fail.

We were kettled after that and the drumming and the defiance grew angry.
But still no violence from the protesters.

Then a mother wailed that she’d lost her small son George. The crowd was so dense she just couldn’t locate him. Immediately the word went round to stop drumming, to stop chanting and to call George’s name. After a while he was found and the crowd reacted with a jubilant cry. The police looked on passively.

They then forced us up Whitehall and when I could, I slipped through the
police line. It began to turn very ugly. And so unnecessary. Pure provocation.

Passengers. A sculpture by May AyresOn a separate issue:

This damned election is surely designed to distract us. Distract us from the slaughter of the Palestinians, from the creep towards their war with Russia, to distract us from the dreadful Pandemic Treaty -everything.

The powers above pulling the government strings have probably decided that Starmer must be installed to hasten the tyranny being imposed on us. If there is any doubt the electorate will comply then of course, the election will be rigged.

However, perhaps we can try at least to thwart their plan and maybe we could do that not by spoiling our ballot paper but by voting for an Independent candidate. There is a nationwide campaign on the go to place an Independent in every constituency. Notable figures like Jeremy Corbyn is standing as an Independent in his constituency, Andrew Feinstein is standing in Keir Starmer’s constituency but ordinary people backed up with full support are being placed in various regions. They may not win of course, but it would surely send out a message that the people won’t be fooled by voting for the uniparty.

You mentioned that you would probably spoil your ballot and I was wondering what your opinion is of this plan.

I now hear that UK Column is also urging people to vote Independent but I think maybe UK Column is not your favourite news platform!

Anyway, again I’m always pleased to read your emails. They confirm my belief that there are many good souls, ,yourself included, ceaselessly fighting for justice in every way they can.

1. I add this very important contribution from Professor Michel Chossudovsky, editor in Chief of Global Research -

Having been to Palestine, and Gaza in particular 10 times, met with Ishmail Haniyeh, the leader of the Hamas political party and resistance movement twice, I find this; " It was a False Flag operation carried out by a “faction” (intelligence assets) within Hamas, in close liaison with Mossad and U.S. intelligence." needs more clarity.

I think a 'faction within Hamas' is unlikely. The population is 'jam packed' - the most dense population in the world. It is not much publicised but traitors have been hanged by Hamas.

I think it more likely that 'Israel' foresaw that a 'breakout' was bound to happen - it is expert in goading and that there is a limit to a people 'living on their knees' under every means of oppression.  This most 'hard wired' entity (Le Carre - the late Peter Cornwell - personal communication) has every means of interception, including to satellite nodes to pick up e-mails etc. It would have known of the plans and as amply shown in this article, had immediate knowledge of the 'breakthroughs'. It was thus able to initiate the Hannibal directive when the time was right. Amongst the lies of babies being decapitated, young women raped etc, there is ample evidence of the truth that at least an Apache attack helicopter was involved and that a kibbutz home where Israelis were sheltering together with Palestinian resistance fighters was shelled etc by Israeli forces. Some of the victims were so severely burned, DNA analysis was needed for identification. What 'Hamas' weapon caused this?  A good deal of this evidence has come from Israeli media and most recently in a compilation made by a British investigative journalist. ? link.

2. Dear May, If there is a truly independent candidate, especially one who has done a proper job, unlike the career politicians infesting the ‘house’, I would of course vote for her or him. Preferring an ‘her’ - less likely anordo ab chaos merchant. I would possibly have stood again in ‘Teignbridge’ but Sue needs my help and the ‘passengers’ might still jump on the Tweedledum, Tweedledee, tweedle bus – with the Star of David on the sides.

In December – in the ‘snap’ election – Halpin 840 votes – losing his deposit ?£600 - total cost £6000. Anne Marie Morris – 29,180 ‘Con’.  Attached your sculpture of the ‘passengers’ - the central problem under an execrable MSM.

PS  This overnight

Victims: 60 people killed in Gaza brings the total number of deaths since 7 October to at least 36,284. With another 280 wounded, that figure has risen to more than 82,057.

Okay, so I was challenged: "Read the Bible! God gave the land of Israel to the Jewish people."

So....I may get crucified for this but I have started to say it -- most recently (terrified, trembling) to warm welcome in a synagogue in LA:

Actually if you read Genesis Exodus and Deuteronomy in Hebrew -- as I do -- you see that God did not "give" Israel to the Jews/Israelites. We as Jews are raised with the creed that "God gave us the land of Israel" in Genesis -- and that ethnically 'we are the chosen people." But actually -- and I could not believe my eyes when I saw this, I checked my reading with major scholars and they confirmed it -- actually God's "covenant" in Genesis, Exodus and Deuteronomy with the Jewish people is NOT ABOUT AN ETHNICITY AND NOT ABOUT A CONTRACT. IT IS ABOUT A WAY OF BEHAVING.

Again and again in the "covenant" language He never says: "I will give you, ethnic Israelites, the land of Israel." Rather He says something far more radical - far more subversive -- far more Godlike in my view. He says: IF you visit those imprisoned...act mercifully to the widow and the orphan...welcome the stranger in your midst...tend the justice and love mercy ....and perform various other tasks...THEN YOU WILL BE MY PEOPLE AND THIS LAND WILL BE YOUR LAND.

So "my people" is not ethnic -- it is transactional. We are God's people not by birth but by a way of behaving, that is ethical, kind and just. And we STOP being "God's people" when we are not ethical, kind and just. And ANYONE who is ethical, kind and just is, according to God in Genesis, "God's people." And the "contract" to "give" us Israel is conditional -- we can live in God's land IF we are "God's people" in this way -- just, merciful, compassionate. AND -- it never ever says, it is ONLY your land. Even when passages spell out geographical "boundaries" as if God does such a thing, it never says this is exclusively your land. It never says I will give this land JUST to you.

Remember these were homeless nomads who had left slavery in Egypt and were wandering around in the desert; at most these passages say, settle here, but they do not say, settle here exclusively. Indeed again and again it talks about welcoming "zarim" -- translated as "strangers" but can also be translated as "people/tribes who are not you" -- in your midst. Blew my mind, hope it blows yours."
