The BBC coat of arms features a lion, a thunderbolt, two eagles and a globe, and the motto "Nation shall speak peace unto nation". The motto is based on biblical verses and reflects the BBC's public service and international scope.

The coat of arms of the BBC was adopted in March 1927 to represent the purpose and values of the corporation. It is seldom used nowadays except for ceremonial purposes.

The various elements of the coat of arms were chosen to provide a heraldic translation of the qualities of the BBC.

• Lion — the crest of the coat of arms has a lion above the helmet. The lion is the national animal of the UK and indicates the BBC's British identity.
• Thunderbolt — The lion grasps a thunderbolt in its outstretched paw, this to represent broadcasting itself (transmission).
• Eagles — In heraldic language the two eagles which grasp the shield are "supporters". Eagles were chosen to depict the inherent speed of broadcasting. Both eagles have bugles suspended from their collars, representing "proclamation", i.e. the public service element of broadcasting.
• Motto — The coat of arms features the BBC motto, "Nation shall speak peace unto Nation"
• Globe — the globe in the shield of the coat of arms represents the scope and breadth of the BBC's operations
• Estoiles — Around the globe are seven estoiles, heraldic symbols for divine goodness and nobility. Their place in the shield increase the representation of the scope and breadth of the corporation. They also symbolise the seven planets in the Solar System other than the Earth. (The arms were granted prior to the discovery of Pluto in 1930, which was classified as a planet from that time until 2006.)^[3]

I am writing to you again using your HoC MP address. I write as a retired trauma and orthopaedic surgeon who has healed thousands with good teams at my side, having qualified as a doctor at St Mary's W2 in 1964. This was followed by 11 years of training before I became a consultant in 1975.

I was brought up by a tender mother - herself abandoned as a little girl in the chaos between two World Wars to 'end all wars', and by a father who cared deeply about our country and the world. He had direct experience of fascism. Six months after I was born 14-04-1940, he went in from our little rented gateway cottage in Lyndhurst to the family business in which he was the key earner being a self taught electronic engineer. He found a crater. One result of 4000 thousand high explosive bombs dropped in two blitzes on Southampton towards the end of September in that year. The Nazis had also dropped 40,000 incendiary bombs on this large and vital town. The Hurricane/Spitfire factory by the Itchen was a primary target. The glow of 'Soton' burning could be seen at night from Cherbourg 40 miles away.

You will certainly know that the agent in this firing is white phosphorus as used by the Zionist regime in attacks on the Lebanon, on the humans in Gaza, and most recently - in all probability, in the attack on those sheltering in the car park of Ahli Arab hospital early in this current and long continued holocaust grafted on to a genocide started in 1948. Professor Ilan Pappe, a Palestine born historian, has documented this in his 2006 book 'The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine' bcc. As a previous director of the Crown Prosecution Service - which I see was set up in 1880, you had probably included that in your reading of international lawlessness.

I have been on the address list of Palestine Action for 2 years  https://www.palestineaction.org/. Their actions are completely defensible in common law - preventing a greater crime.  Recall the disabling of B52s at Fairford, a WW2 RAF base leased to the US, and presently lead by a lethal, walking corpse - cerebral atrophy certain. The fence was broken down and stuff put into the turbines. The B52s from the Evil Empire with the fascist UK its special ally, were bombing Iraq via its base here. All part of the war on the  'axis of evil' - as opposed to the actual - the US and UK as surrogates with Israel. The 'actionists' were arrested by the 'police' on the M4. A trial was held much later - but they were found not guilty.

Recall Zionist/'Labour' Harold Wilson giving away the Chagos Islands so the US could re-fuel B2s without risk of rain on their fabric, after they had dropped 'materiel' on Iraq, and previously on families two years previously in 'Ghan'. The islanders were shifted to slums in Mauritius after their dogs were shot. Several legal actions took place with eventual success, as reported by the late and great John Pilger, but overturned finally by 'An Order in Council'. That is the Privy Council - stuffed with cabalists like Lord Cameron of Chipping Sodbury, Mandelson and Zahawi. Leading 'democracies' - have been heading a war machine called the North Atlantic Holocaust Organization.  Remember - 39 'nations' piled into Iraq - another holocaust. The intention of the Al Quassam brigade and others - lawful resistance to a military occupation, was to take hostages in bargaining for the release of c.10,000 Palestinians in Israeli jails/torture chambers/improvised IOF prison camps. Think 'shock and awe' - G W Bush, think 'clear and present danger' - SIR Anthony Charles Lynton Blair KC - the paramount psychopath and war criminal. He should be in a cold 'high security' prison after trial - like Belmarsh where the junta here with all help from High Court judge - Lady Arbuthot - Baroness Arbuthnot of Edrom, kept Assange in jail without charge! So Julian Assange was held in 'solitary' for over 5 years for telling the truth about several holocausts.  Definition -the mass killing of humans by humans.

I tried to cross into Jerusalem today (where I used to be a highschool teacher) and was denied by the apartheid colonizers. My wife too. Our US passports notwithstanding. This is a clear violation of the agreement reached with the US State Department that allowed Israelis to enter the US on a visa waiver program. US citizens are not treated with respect agreed to. Over the weekend we were stopped from doing our field work in the Jordan valley by these apartheid regime forces. This was not the first time. On so many occasions we are harassed and prevented from having any normalcy.  In other parts of Palestine, the situation is much worse. In Gaza Strip alone over the past nine months 186,000 Palestinians were killed by bombing them, by denial of food, water, medicine and by destroying their infrastructure etc.  As I am in touch with many families in Gaza by phone I hear horror stories including literally starving to death and if there is a food it is only bread or only rice (no proteins, vegetables, milk, fruits etc). And what worries me more are families we lost touch with (no phones). The regime tramples our  right of religion, right of movement, right of education, essentially our rights of life.

The Police Force in a Fascist Country Reacts

Dear David,

I returned late last night from an impromptu rally outside Downing Street. A truly heart warming record turn out at short notice, the protesters began streaming in well before 6pm, the official start. Inflamed by the horrendous assault in Rafah the people turned out in full force. I think it’s worth writing about because it was very inspiring.

We all know how governments ignore demonstrations. (The millions turning out against the invasion of Iraq achieved nothing and it’s still a very sore point). This Palestine protest was different to recent ones. I suppose because the area was small it appeared more powerful. (I’ve never seen Whitehall so jammed packed with protesting bodies) And there was a palpable sense of urgency that the slaughter had to stop.

I arrived fairly early and was soon crammed in. There was no pushing or shoving but I had to weave my way out and managed to cross the road, directly in front of Downing Street gates. The police had kept the left lane free for the traffic. Manned by PC’s who all looked about sixteen, they struggled to contain the numbers. They carefully threaded ribbon along the perimeter to hold back the crowd from the traffic lane. The traffic had to be free, the masses had to be herded. But they lost the battle. The flood gates had been opened, people streamed along the traffic lane and they had to close Whitehall. The PC’s scuttled away, and the people claimed the whole area. The speakers on the stadium tried hard to be heard above the chanting but when they had finished the disciplined drummers set the mood of cheerful defiance. The chants took on a powerful rhythm.

We are the people.

We won’t be silent.

Stop the bombing

Now, Now, Now, Now.

Even I who doesn’t often join in the chanting when marching, felt sufficiently moved to sing along with a full voice!

And that was just one of a number of uplifting slogans accompanied by drum beats that soared over the area in cheerful but steely defiance. The atmosphere was wonderful. The crowd was one solid mass and when the rains came we all remained steadfast. Then the signal came to sit down. Now this is what I’ve always thought we should do, especially during the million people march for Iraq. But it’s when I remember that I’m now seventy -five not twenty - five. No longer so agile. But many did.

And at half past eight the police could no longer tolerate the enormous peaceful, noisy gathering. They attacked. A long solid line of cops smashed through the protesters and I was hurled to one side and tumbled into the laps of sitting protesters. I must have hurt some of them but they were more concerned for me. I guess I looked old in their eyes and they were shocked at the brutality. But sadly, it’s no longer shocking. They were fearful that we’d never go home and had to show off their  brutalforce. But we do go home. One day soon, we won't. We’ll all sit down and refuse to leave.
