I saw your broadcast last night, and heard your additions on 'Today' today.
As a doctor, and later orthopaedic and trauma surgeon, who started training at St Mary's in 1958, I cannot lie quiet. For this reason I stood as an independent candidate in Newton Abbot in the recent 'snap' election in which the BBC very obviously helped the eventual winner.

In brief, I support your campaign to re-open more hospital, community and social care beds and facilities.
In my world of caring for the local population's sickest patients, we are frequently hamstrung in our efforts by the lack of the above facilities.
I am in no doubt of the negative impact on NHS patients of healthcare policies in the last decade.

Ask real experts why babies are becoming SEPTICAEMIC (NOT SEPSIS) whilst in the birth canal. I cannot recall this in our 3 months of 'midder' training. I spent 6 weeks with two other students in our short white coats at Hillingdon. A majority of Mums were from Pakistan - they had healthy babies with shocks of black hair. The 4 obstetricians and gynaecologists (2 were ladies) were of the highest calibre and there was the best liaison between them and the midwives. Chiswick Maternity Unit where I spent the next 6 weeks was isolated by traffic from the West Middx but the midwives were good. (I am pleased to say that I helped save a young woman's life there when the kindly lady registrar broke down in the face of 'concealed accidental haemorrhage' - 4.5 pints )
I was aware of a little hostility to 'medics' amongst some midwives then, but that has grown in recent decades. Dangerous - when each, with Mums, are complimentary.
You said in your report that the consultant obstetricians had at some time refused to come in and read the notes. Your question then as journalists should have been - 'where was the GMC?' The answer might have been - persecuting Dr Hadiza Bawa-Garba. along with a preponderance of other 'coloured' doctors in OUR NHS. They should have been sacked on the spot if the truth was that. Leadership on the bridges of NHS ships is as vital as on the seas. Attached.
