David - Would you allow me to put your letter on my web site? I think people are twigging that we have an entirely illusory democracy.
Anne - Engagement with Palestine certainly opens our eyes to layers of reality which we might otherwise never have suspected, including the fallacy of democracy and the sophisticated machinery of social manipulation used to conceal the institutional and material violence of the system we really live under.

Dear Ms Mountjoy,
I refer to your Spotlight SW broadcast last evening on this subject from an Exeter girls' school. As a good journalist, I am sure you would agree that information you broadcast should be as complete and as balanced as reasonably possible. The duty of the BBC is not to project populist material in the way the government has already done on this subject, with key facts absent.
This programme, and a previous national BBC programme, focused on the agent which might trigger cervical carcinoma in later decades. It rightly stated that immunization did not cover all HPV types. It also stated that the virus was sexually transmitted.
What neither programme told its wide audience was that predominant causes of transmission of this oncogenic virus are

1. promiscuous sexual intercourse - thereby increasing the risk of transmission of the virus and individual infection
2. the absence of barrier contraception.
Thus, the youngster (and perhaps an illogical parent) is not being
properly informed as to how they might best defend themselves.

I stand here because I have strong passions and beliefs. My central motivation is the child. When I look into the happy blue eyes of our three girl grandchildren, I see the two billion children in our world. Each child is precious and not one should be hurt in the least way. I believe in the sanctity of life. As a surgeon, I heal and do not harm. I grew up in a family where to lie was sinful. And the underdog was not to be kicked around. Gentleness and sensitivity grew strong within me.
Many share my instincts but most of those in power do not. All living creatures and our most wonderful and beautiful world are threatened by humans who climb to power and who harm every single thing their claws can gouge – like Rumsfeld's claws.
